HOT AND COLD METAL JOINING

This involves the joining of metals through the use of heat.

The heat may be supplied directly or indirectly (i.e some processes). There may be filler material, which when melted by heat flow into the joint and solidifies. The heat may be supplied by electrical system, gas or fire. Examples of hot metal joining are arc welding, gas welding, friction welding, brazing and soldering etc.

It is the joining of metals without the use of heat.
There may be filler material or no filler material. If filler material is present, then it must be in a liquid form. The joint is formed as a result of high pressure or as a result of solidification of liquid when exposed to air. Examples are adhesion welding, mechanical fasteners and cold pressure welding.
